Measures to Reduce GHG Emissions: Refrigerants

Refrigerants are substances used in equipment for cooling and heating purposes. Emissions from equipment can be reduced by decreasing the charge size, leak rate, or replacing of the refrigerant with a lower global warming potential (GWP) refrigerant. The refrigerants section includes fact sheets and quantification methods for 7 measures. Use the list below to navigate directly to each measure's factsheet.

Refrigerants Measures

  • R-1. Use Alternative Refrigerants Instead of High-GWP Refrigerants
  • R-2. Install Secondary Loop and/or Cascade Supermarket Systems in Place of Direct Expansion Systems
  • R-3. Install Transcritical CO2 Supermarket Systems in Place of High-GWP Systems
  • R-4. Install Microchannel Heat Exchangers in A/C Equipment in Place of Conventional Heat Exchanger
  • R-5. Reduce Service Leak Emissions
  • R-6. Reduce Operational Leak Emissions
  • R-7. Reduce Disposal Emissions
